1.) Using a pencil and level, draw a square around the hole and then create one side of the square using the level. Be sure to center it on stud. With the use of the drywall saw, saw 3 sides of the square but be sure not to cut the side which is centered on the stud yet.
2.) Using the utility knife, take out the drywall stud. Back the repair with a piece of lumber, and use adhesive to place it in the square. Allow the adhesive to dry.
3.) Cut a piece of scrap drywall to fit the square then fasten it to the piece of lumber and drywall studs using screw.
4.) Place fiberglass mesh tape over the scrap drywall and make sure that it overlaps the corner to increase its strength. Apply drywall compound over the fiberglass mesh tape then let it dry.
5.) The apply light coats of drywall compound over the repaired area and see to it that the first coat was already dry before applying the next one. Apply primer to the drywall repair area then paint it with a color that matches the entire surroundings.
